Introducing: Duolingo

Duolingo is a worldwide popular language learning tool. It is famous for its animations and basic use while practicing. It is suitable for all age groups, from young learners to adults, even elders! For example, my younger cousin who is 14 years old, and my grandmother who is 75 both use Duolingo Super to learn and practice English. This tool starts the lesson by testing your overall knowledge or you can start learning from the beginning. If you decide to start from the beginning, firstly, it introduces you to the words and basic and daily vocabulary, and then it starts you to show the basic sentences including these words. These steps are the same for every language in there. For example, I sometimes practice French and it follows the same learning path. Also, thanks to its basic and clear design, it is not distracting or complex for the learners. As you keep practicing, you also learn and practice with different contents such as visiting places, family members, eating at the restaurant, etc. Duolingo is a great digital tool to practice grammar and learn a language from the beginning. I will show and introduce the learning process below!

Duolingo's Website

Firstly, you answer the questions and create your profile. (which language you want to learn, how often you will practice, how  you found Duolingo, etc.)

After that, it asks you do you know English or do you want to start learning from the beginning. If you say I know English, it will give you a quick test to calculate your level. If you prefer the other option you start by learning basics.

As you practice and learn you keep going on a path to another topic with more difficult content.

If you want you can get daily notifications to remind you to practice. Or you can add it to your daily schedule.

There are three main stages of learning. The first part is the easiest covering all basic and daily knowledge. The second and final parts are more based on grammatical knowledge with complex structures.

Also, you can follow your friends or family member's accounts. And compare your practice points and challenge them!

Here's my profile, you can see my followers and following on the right side and my achievements are below. These kinds of achievements and challenges and be encouraging for learners, especially for young learners.

I would use Duolingo with my young learners because they like to practice with it and they don't get easily distracted or bored thanks to its animations. This tool could be used to give practicing homework to do at home and the teacher can monitor their students by checking their scores on their profiles.  At the beginning of learning, Duolingo is a great start!
